TAMPA, Fla. – The AVCA No. 1 ranked Tampa Spartans flexed their muscles against No. 20 Palm Beach Atlantic, sweeping the visiting Sailfish out of the Martinez Center on Saturday afternoon
Tampa set the tone early with a dominating 25-13 showing in the first set. The Sailfish hit just .114 as a team while the Spartans put together a .446 percentage.
Set two was more of the same for PBA, unable to get a consistent attack and struggling to stop the UT offense. Though the Spartans only hit .281 in the second set, the Sailfish were held to a -.091 mark and had just four kills compared to seven errors as Tampa took set two 25-15.
Palm Beach Atlantic turned their game up in the third set, but it wouldn’t be enough to take down the Spartans, as UT walked away with a 25-20 win for the sweep. The Sailfish once again hit in the negatives at -.045, but put together a strong defensive effort with eight total blocks and 17 digs in the set.
Sophomore Katie Ballantyne led the way with seven kills, while libero Rachael Holehouse had 13 digs and Becca Acevedo chipped in 10 of her own.
The Sailfish will look to rebound from just their second loss of the season on Tuesday night when they play host to Florida Tech at 7 pm.
