FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- The Sailfish volleyball team continued their recent good work against South Florida rival Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday evening as Palm Beach Atlantic earned a 3-0 sweep of the Sharks. The victory extends the ‘Fish early-season record to 9-1 and sets up another Broward County matchup on Friday with Barry University.

PBA put forth a typical good service record while limiting their opponent with a solid defensive effort as NSU (3-5) connected on only a .067 hitting percentage for the match. The Sharks’ struggles at the service line were also a big factor as the young NSU side committed eight service errors.

In the end the power of PBA’s dynamic young lineup proved to be too much for NSU as the Sailfish were victorious by the scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-18.

Sophomore Faith Rohn continued her rampage of late against the opposition with 13 more kills to push her early season total to 144 kills (4.50 per set). Fellow sophomores Rachael Holehouse and Stephany Brown also produced solid nights with six and five kills respectively. Holehouse did her damage on just 13 attacks for a .385 attacking percentage.

The strong defensive effort for PBA was led by junior Melissa Buckingham who managed 25 digs in just three sets while chipping in four assists. Fellow junior captain Becca Acevedo dished out 31 assists with a pair of service aces in the win.

Dana Holger led the NSU hitting efforts with 10 kills while Sydney Cook contributed nine kills.

The Sailfish will travel to Barry on Friday, Sept. 21st for a 7 pm showdown at the Bucs to close out the week of competition against their South Florida rivals.
