AIKEN, S.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team improved their early season record to 8-1 as they posted two more sweeps on Saturday over the likes of Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University and Converse (S.C.) College at the USC-Aiken Tournament. The team’s dominant work on Saturday coupled with Friday’s two match sweep pushes their win streak to seven matches in a row.

The team will now return their focus back to South Florida as they will hit the road for a pair of important NCAA South Region contests next week when they travel to Nova Southeastern University (Sept. 17) and Barry University (Sept. 20).

Match One (PBA vs. Lincoln Memorial University)

The consistent theme for the Sailfish throughout their two-day stay in South Carolina was the strong hitting of sophomores Faith Rohn and Stephany Brown.

The duo tied for the team-lead with 11 kills each versus Lincoln Memorial (4-4) as PBA posted wins of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-18.

Rohn put her stamp on another double-double with 12 digs while Brown knocked down her 11 kills on just 22 attacks while also adding in two blocks. Freshman Emma Ballantyne continued her good work as well with nine kills (.429 attacking percentage) as the ‘Fish pounded a respectable .252 team hitting percentage.

Melissa Buckingham and Rachael Holehouse joined Rohn in double-figures in digs with 15 and 14 respectively while setter Becca Acevedo stayed consistent with 32 assists in the win. Buckingham also added in a season-high four service aces.

Match Two (PBA vs. Converse College)

The Sailfish would take on Converse College in the day’s second match which proved to be a rematch of last weekend’s meeting between the two teams at the Carson Newman College Tournament.

Although seven days had past the results were the same as the first matchup as Palm Beach Atlantic had little trouble quieting the CC attack. PBA pushed ahead early and came away with 25-14, 25-8 and 25-20 victories as Converse drops to 0-9 on the season.

Rohn topped the team’s kills chart once again with 15 kills (.270 attacking percentage) while Brown backed her up nicely with an 11 kill effort on only 18 attacks (.500 attacking percentage).

Acevedo finished the afternoon with a double-double of 29 assists and 10 digs while Buckingham added in 12 digs.

Brytney Annis and Brown each contributed three blocks apiece in the victory.
