WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team made for a quick match for their home debut on Tuesday as they defeated Lynn (Fla.) University by a score of 3-0 in front of the home crowd at the Rubin Arena. Sophomore Faith Rohn paced the steady PBA attack with 20 kills and a .400 hitting percentage as the Fish improved their early season record to 4-1.
Taking on their Palm Beach County rivals in Lynn for the first time since 2010, the Sailfish (4-1) and Fighting Knights (3-1) battled to a tight 25-23 score in set one before the ‘Fish turned things up for 25-19 and 25-16 wins in the final two sets.
Overall PBA hit .292 on the night while limiting the Knights to a .207 mark.
Following Rohn as offensive leaders was Emma Ballantyne with seven kills, Stephany Brown adding in six kills and Brytney Annis chipping in four kills.
Junior setter Becca Acevedo finished the night with 35 assists while libero Melissa Buckingham led a strong defensive effort for the Fish with 15 digs. Rachael Holehouse finished with eight digs.
The Knights were paced by 11 kills from Angie Caple while Liga Strautniece added in eight kills.
PBA heads back on the road this weekend as they are slated to play four matches at the USC-Aiken Tournament beginning with a 3 pm showdown with Valdosta State (Ga.) University on Friday.
