Rollins College Rolls to Victory with Dominating Hitting Effort

Box Score

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Kicking off the Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic this weekend at the Rubin Arena, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team played host to NCAA regional foe, Rollins College before a solid crowd on Friday evening where the Tars claimed a 3-0 victory over the Fish. Although they would have momentum swings fall in their favor in each set, the Sailfish could never quite get over the hump to upset the Tars.

Entering with a 17-7 record on the season while receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll, the Tars attacked at a high clip on Friday as a balanced hitting presence led the team to 25-14, 25-20, and 25-19 wins over PBA.

Kelly Merideth and Megan Hodges proved to be the two most prolific attackers with 13 and 12 kills each but the likes of Camille Indest and Collyn Welsch each added in eight kills as well.

Setting up the Tars offense was a superb showing by setter Kiana Parks who managed 37 assists and helped the RC offense jump out with a first-set attacking percentage of an even .500 while the squad finished the match hitting a solid .319 overall.

On the Sailfish side the main offensive force flowed through junior Mariela Quesada as the Costa Rica native pounded out a match-high 16 kills on a total of 37 attacks to finish with a .297 attacking percentage.

Senior Janeen McCormick added in a nice performance as well with seven kills on only 13 swings for a team-best .385 attacking percentage.

The Tars defense limited PBA to only a .195 attacking percentage for the match.

Palm Beach Atlantic will attempt to right the ship on Saturday when they take on the University of Central Oklahoma at 3 pm to wrap up play at the Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic. Rollins will battle UCO at 12 pm as well.
