Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla.- Taking on their fourth Sunshine State Conference opponent in as many matches, the result was unfortunately the same for the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team as they dropped a 3-1 decision on Tuesday evening to the likes of Lynn University in nearby Boca Raton. Four Fighting Knights hitters reached double-digits in kills on the night while posting an impressive .341 team hitting percentage.
Much as they did in their previous match with Barry University, the Sailfish started out slow with a 25-13 defeat in the first set but once again came storming back for a set two victory by winning 25-20. LU would move back into control however in the final two sets as they earned 25-15 and 25-14 victories to earn the 3-1 victory.
Six players on the Knights collected all but one of the team’s kills on the night as Sophie Gagnon led all players with 12 kills while posting a .333 hitting percentage. Gagnon also led a dominant front-line blocking effort from Lynn as she assisted on seven of the team’s 22 blocks.
PBA was led on the night by senior Jennifer Eldridge and junior Kristin Carroll as both players earned nine kills. Eldridge just missed yet another double-double effort as she managed 13 digs. Junior Liz Fugate chipped in eight kills while hitting for a team-high .333 attack percentage.
Sophomore Jessica Way once again proved steady from the setter position as she dished out 32 assists while also adding in 11 digs. Freshman libero Heather Shulke returned to form after a tough showing in the team’s previous match against Barry University with a match-high 16 digs.
Devon Wollard led the Knights efforts all night long from the setter position with 46 assists while registering 14 digs. Katie Bradly and Lacy Redwine each posted 16 digs to aide the defensive efforts for the now 11-3 Fighting Knights.
Haley Pratt posted 11 kills and just one hitting error for Lynn while Bradly and Chelsey Semprini rounded out the double-digit kills performers for LU with 10 kills each.
PBA will have another tough opponent in their next outing as they will take on Nova Southeastern University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24th in Davie, Florida. Catch that game live on the Sailfish Sports Network with pre-match coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
