Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn.- Heading north to Bristol, Tennessee on the campus of King College, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team came away with a dominating opening match victory over the likes of Fairmont State University on Friday afternoon. PBA pushed through for 25-20, 25-18, and 25-9 wins to take the match by a 3-0 sweep.
The match versus FSU begins a busy weekend for the Sailfish (7-8) who will play three more matches over the next two days in the tournament. The Fish take on a tough opponent in host King College in match number two of the day set to take place on Friday evening at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Sophomore setter Jessica Way, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, led the Sailfish efforts against Fairmont State with a very solid overall performance. Way did her usual good work from the setter position with a total of 42 assists, 12 digs, and three kills.
Also putting together solid showing were senior Jennifer Eldridge and junior Kristin Carroll who led the hitting efforts for the blue and white with 10 kills each. Sophomore Janeen McCormick was right behind with eight kills and Lauren Villarreal added in five kills.
Defensively, the Fish were led by Eldridge with 13 digs while freshman libero Heather Shulke added in 12 digs. Freshman Kristina Harter chipped in with six digs while sophomore Allie Warren aided the Sailfish defensive cause with five digs. Lanae Robinson put down seven total blocks in the match including four solo blocks.
