Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team concluded a season-high nine match road streak on Wednesday evening as they made the hour drive to Barry University for a mid-week evening volleyball contest. Despite putting together four close sets, the Sailfish would eventually fall to the Buccaneers by a 3-1 final tally.
Looking forward to returning to the friendly confines of the Rubin Arena in their next match against Northwood University on Friday, the Sailfish were down 0-2 to start the match tonight as BU tallied 25-21 and 25-23 victories in the first two sets. PBA was limited to an .059 attacking percentage in game one while improving to .143 in game two.
Down but refusing to quit, the Sailfish fought back for a game three victory behind a much stronger team hitting effort evidenced by their .297 overall attacking mark in game three with only four errors as they pushed forward with a 25-20 score in game three. Back came the Barry Bucs however in game four as they closed out the match with a match-high .304 attacking percentage (17 kills and just four errors in 43 total attacks.) as they prevailed 25-21.
Senior Jennifer Eldridge and sophomore Janeen McCormick paced the Sailfish hitting efforts as the duo tied for the team-lead in kills with 13 each. A transfer this season from the University of Delaware, McCormick put forth quite possibly her best overall performance of the season as she paved the way with a solid .346 attacking percentage from her middle-blocker position as she also added in two solo blocks and a block assist.
Eldridge continued to show her versatility as the Palm Beach Gardens native put together another double-double showing with 19 digs to go along with her 13 kills.
Freshman Heather Shulke paced the Fish defense with 21 digs while sophomore setter Jessica Way tossed out 43 assists, nine digs, and six kills in eight attempts for a spectacular .750 attacking percentage.
On the Black and Red side, the Bucs were paced by a dominating performance from Julia Teixiera with 21 kills (.305 attacking percentage) and 11 kills from Ady Alcantara. Spenser Rigg led all players in the match with 25 digs while Libby Walter handled the setting duties for Barry and dished out 42 total assists.
PBA takes on cross-town rival Northwood University on Friday with the opening serve set to take place at 7 p.m. at the Rubin Arena.Â
