Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla.- Wrapping up a busy day of volleyball, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team took on Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon in the second of two matches for the Sailfish on Saturday at The Clemente Center. After slumping in set one with a 25-20 loss, the Fish came back for a 25-13 win of their own to even things up. That’s where the Panthers regained control to close out the 3-1 victory with 25-22 and 25-11 victories.
The loss drops PBA to an even 10-10 on the season while FIT now stands at 11-8.
PBA was led once again by the strong right arm of senior Jennifer Eldridge who posted a team-high 13 kills and only five hitting errors (.216 attacking percentage.) Eldridge, in her usual style, managed another double-double with 15 digs as well.
Sophomore Lanae Robinson also reached double-figures in kills for PBA with 10 kills although the Cave Creek, Arizona native also was tagged for eight hitting errors.
Leading the team devensively was another solid showing from freshman libero Heather Shulke who collected a team-high 21 digs in the loss. Sophomore setter Jessica Way put together a solid overall showing as well with 35 assists and 12 defensive digs. Junior Kristin Carroll added in 11 digs.
For FIT, the Panthers were paced by four players in double-figures for kills including a team-high 13 kills from Caitlyn Ballweber. Sarah Garner and Shelby DeNeice each tallied 11 kills while Chang Liu added in 10 kills.
Defensively the Panthers were led by the extraordinary efforts of Amy O’Brien who managed 33 digs in the four games. Alexis Mastela guided the offense with 38 assists while also collecting 10 digs.
The Sailfish will hit the road again for their next outing on Wednesday, October 21st as they will travel to Barry University for a 7 pm matchup with the Buccaneers.
