Box Score DURANGO, Colo.- Going up against quite possibly their toughest opponent to date in the 2008 season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team showed why there is still work to be done for the young Sailfish volleyball team. Perennially a strong squad, Abilene Christian University came away with a 3-0 sweep of the Sailfish on Friday night in the second match of the Fort Lewis College Tournament on Friday evening.
Entering with a perfect 4-0 record on the young season and coming off a 3-0 win of their own earlier in the day versus Montana State University at Billings, the Sailfish were unable to match the success of ACU as they fell in three games by the scores of: 25-21, 25-13, and 25-11.
Unable to come away with much consistency, the Sailfish totaled 17 kills as a team while registering 29 hitting errors for a hitting percentage of -.120.
With two more matches tomorrow, the Sailfish must regroup as they will once again face off against top competition.
Senior Brittany Erickson led the offensive attack with five kills while also collecting team-high honors in blocks with three. Senior Emily Ryerson collected six assists while freshman setter Jessica Way chipped in nine assists to lead the squad. Way also paced PBA with seven digs on the defensive end.
With the victory, Abilene Christian improved to 6-0 on the season while the first defeat for PBA drops their season total to 4-1.
Up next on the slate for Saturday is Dixie State University at noon followed up by a 6 pm date with the host institution, Fort Lewis College.
