Box Score WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Following up their tournament opening win versus Florida College, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team came out with an even more dominant victory over Ave Maria University in their second contest in the Northwood University Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Fish cruised while utilizing varied lineup schemes to a 3-0 win.
Utilizing the entirety of her roster, PBA head coach Beth Avila was able to analyze some court time of her young team including seeing everyone on the varsity roster see the court against Ave Maria University.
The Fish dominated from the on-set as they tallied 25-17, 25-14, and 25-16 victories.
Senior Brittany Erickson once again paced the front line attack although she played in only two of the three sets. Erickson registered seven kills with just one hitting error in only 19 attack attempts. Sophomore Kristin Carroll tied Erickson for the team lead in kills as she registered seven kills without a hitting error in 10 attempts for a cool .700 hitting percentage.
Three freshman hitters also produced solid results as they continue to gain seasoning in their first collegiate seasons. Lauren Villarreall, PBA’s 6’1” middle-blocker from Charlotte, North Carolina, came through with five kills while adding in four total blocks (one solo, three assists).
Jamie VanDenBerg and Maeghan Barber both shined as well as they totaled four kills apiece while Barber continued her strong serving with three more aces.
Senior Emily Ryerson collected 20 assists in the victory while freshman setter Jessica Way also saw action from the setting position and back row as she added in six assists and three defensive digs.
PBA returns to the Northwood court tomorrow as they square off against Northwood University at 12 pm. They will then take on Clearwater Christian at 2 pm. The tournament championship match will take place at 6 pm in the center court.
