Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- Even though they challenged, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team was unable to come away with a victory on Wednesday evening as they were defeated 3-0 against Eckerd College on the road.
Senior outside-hitter Lydee Benoit placed herself at the top of the EC volleyball record books as she led the Tritons with 24 kills on the night while becoming the school’s all-time kills leader with 1,149 kills in her career.
After an easy 25-13 win for the Tritons in the first set, the Sailfish came back with a much superior effort in the final two sets but still fell just short of the Tritons (14-9) as they took the sets 25-23 and 25-22 respectively.
PBA senior Brittany Erickson once again paced the hitting efforts for the Fish as she totaled 12 kills and just three hitting errors for an attack percentage of .429. The problem however for the Fish was once again a lack of a second strong hitting option as no other PBA player totaled more than five kills in the match.
Junior Jennifer Eldridge and freshman Katie Harris each led the defensive efforts for PBA as they both totaled 10 digs while Erickson paced the Fish at the net with five block assists. Freshman middle-blocker Lauren Villarreal chipped in four block assists.
Now 8-12 on the season, the Fish will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend as they will have a busy two days of volleyball action.
Their weekend begins with a pair of contests on the campus of nearby Lynn University on Friday with a 4 pm matchup with Montevallo University and a 7 pm match with the Fighting Knights of Lynn.
Saturday the action will move back to West Palm Beach as the Fish host the University of Puerto Rico- Rio Piedras at 10 am and a 7 pm tilt with Flagler College.
