Fish Hang Tough But Unable to Fight Off Knights

Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla.- As the case has been for many games this season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball entered halftime with not only a lead, but confidence. Also not unlike many games, Tuesday evening featured the Sailfish who weren’t able to close out their opponent in the final minutes as Lynn University pressed forward for a 63-54 victory.

Close throughout, PBA entered intermission with a 34-31 lead and pushed the Knights on both ends of the floor. The first period of play saw the Fish limit the Fighting Knights (11-6) to only 11.1% from three-point range (1-9) while holding them to a 46.7% (14-30) overall shooting rate.

Unfortunatly the second half did not treat the Fish as kindly as the first as the PBA shooters lost their touch to the tune of a 25% shooting percentage from the field while connecting on just 3-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc.

Junior forward Manny Lopez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) bounced back tonight after a disappointing performance in his last outing against Flagler College to the tune of 18 points on 7-of-12 shots from the field while hitting all three free-throw attempts and his only shot from long range. Lopez also added in five rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes of action.

David Powell, a junior from Hollywood, Florida, also reached double figures along with sophomore Jonathan Lawrence who finished with 16 and 11 points respectively.

Now 2-17 on the season, PBA will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 26th when they travel to the University of Tampa for a basketball double-header featuring both universities’ men’s and women’s teams. Tipoff for the women begins at 2 pm followed up by a 4 pm start time for the men’s game.
