Box Score West Palm Beach, Fla.- Having won their two other matches during the week and facing off against a team who would play its fourth match in two days, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s volleyball team still feel just short as Flagler College swept the Sailfish 3-0 on Saturday evening.
Coming off big victories against Nova Southeastern and Northwood University, the Sailfish seemed poised to make it a perfect week but couldn’t ever seem to get in a rhythm as the Saints rolled, 30-22, 30-20, and 30-22.
Both squads used a balanced hitting attack with the Sailfish being led by the double-digit efforts of senior Bia Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Palm Beach CC) and junior Brittany Erickson (La Mesa, Calif.) with 10 kills apiece while the Saints were paced by Katie Beale (Stuart, Fla./Martin County HS) with 10 kills while Krista McAra (Merrit Island, Fla./Merritt Island HS) and Meg Weathersby (Maitland, Fla./Orangewood Christian HS) followed closely behind with nine kills each.
Junior setter Emily Ryerson (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) chipped in 26 assists in the loss while Audrey Hippensteel (Cooper City, Fla./Broward CC) aided the Saints attack with 26 total assists. Ryerson also was a force up front for the Sailfish as she led the team with five total blocks.
Libero specialist Jennifer Eldridge (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer HS) collected 12 digs to lead the Fish on the evening while Santos added 11 and senior Ali Mitchell (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm HS) pitched in 10 digs.
PBA hits the road for their next match when they travel to Barry University in Miami Shores for a showdown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11th.
