Back To Winning Ways as Sailfish Defeat Eagles

Box Score

Daytona, Fla.- After three consecutive 2-3 regular season match losses, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s volleyball team got back on the winning track on Friday night by defeating Embry-Riddle University 3-1 on the road.

Matched up against Embry-Riddle for the second time this season, the Sailfish didn’t exactly storm out of the gates as they stumbled to the home-standing Eagles in game number one by a score of 32-30. However, the Sailfish wouldn’t let this one slip away as they took the next three games (30-23, 30-19, 30-13) on their way to victory.

Junior Brittany Erickson (Las Mesa, Calif.) once again gave the Fish a big boost as she paced the front-line attack with 23 kills while also proving valuable as a back-row defender with 16 digs. Not to be typecast, Erickson also continued to thrive on the front-line as well as she registered 4 total blocks.

Bia Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil and team captain for the Blue and White, produced a solid game as well as she led the Sailfish with 24 digs against the Eagles. Santos would also tally eight blocks as she continued with her solid senior campaign.

Setting specialist Emily Ryerson (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) totaled 51 assists to aide the Sailfish attack while continuing to thrive as perhaps PBA’s most valuable all-around player during the 2007 season.

A great defensive night for PBA, seven players recorded double-digits in digs including freshman Katie Medder (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian HS) who chipped in 14 digs off the Sailfish bench.

Now 11-10 on the season, PBA returns home for their next match when they take on Eckerd College on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Rubin Arena. The Tritons defeated PBA back on September 1st by a score of 3-0 when the Sailfish competed in the Eckerd College tournament.
