Box Score Boca Raton, Fla.- Coming off an exciting five-game victory on the road at Barry University, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s volleyball team could not keep the momentum going as they were defeated on Saturday afternoon by Lynn University in four games.
Things started off pleasantly for the Sailfish as they took game one by a score of 30-27 only to see the fighting knights storm back and take the final three games by the scores of 26-30, 27-30, and 24-30.
Three Sailfish attackers would reach double-digit kills on the afternoon with junior Brittany Erickson (La Mesa, Calif.) leading the way with 14 kills followed by seniors Ali Mitchell (Wes Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach HS) and Bia Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Palm Beach CC) with 13 and 10 kills respectively.
Junior Emily Ryerson (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) aided the Fish front line with 38 assists while also adding in 16 digs on the defensive side of the ball. Mitchell led the overall PBA defensive effort with 17 digs.
Freshman Kristin Carroll (Billings, Mont.) led the Sailfish with four aces with Erickson also adding in three aces from the backline.
With the defeat, PBA continues their roller-coaster season as they drop to 7-6 on the season while Lynn improves to 8-2 with the victory. PBA has yet to lose more than two matches in a row this season or win more than two consecutive matches.
The Sailfish travel to Melbourne, Florida on Wednesday, September 19th to square off against Florida Tech in a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Panthers of the Sunshine State Conference.
PBA will also be hosting the annual Pepsi Bash at the Beach Volleyball Tournament beginning Friday, September 21s . The tournament opens play at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
