Sailfish Can't Handle Tars in Five Game Marathon

Box Score

Winter Park, Fla.- Dropping their fifth straight decision to fall to 12-16 on the season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team once again fell just short as they were defeated by Rollins College on the road on Saturday evening by a score of 3-2.

Despite the strong efforts of the Sailfish front-line, PBA was unable to overcome a late charge by the Tars and stumbled after being up two games to one.

Rollins jumped ahead in game one with a 30-24 victory and appeared to be well on their way to an easy victory before the Fish took the momentum with wins in game two and three by the scores of 30-22 and 30-27. Not to be outdone, the Tars would knot things but at two games apiece after winning game four 30-26. Entering the final game, the Tars momentum and home-court advantage took full effect as they fought for a 15-12 victory to take the match.

Senior Bia Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put forth quite the effort for head coach Nicole Carter and the Sailfish on the evening as she posted a team-leading 17 kills while only being charged with four attack errors. Santos finished with a solid .289 attacking percentage while adding in 13 digs and three solo blocks.

Also reaching double-digits in kills for the match were junior Brittany Erickson (La Mesa, Calif.) and senior Ali Mitchell (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm HS) with 16 and 15 kills respectively. Mitchell also tied for the team lead in digs as she collected 14 from the PBA back-row. Erickson paced the Sailfish with three service aces on the night.

Junior Emily Ryerson (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) continued to post solid results from the setter position as she accumulated 51 assists while also aiding the back-row defense with 14 digs. Ryerson had only one setting error in the entire match.

Now 12-16 on the season, PBA has only one more remaining regular-season match on its schedule which will take place on Tuesday, October 30th when they travel to Miami Gardens, Florida for a date with St. Thomas University at 7:00 p.m. PBA is 2-0 against STU this season.
