Fish Efforts Not Enough Against Fighting Knights at Home

Box Score

West Palm Beach, Fla.- Matching up against Lynn University for the second time this season, the results were unfortunately the same for the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team as the time before as the Sailfish fell to the Fighting Knights by a final score of 3-1.

Before a solid Rubin Arena crowd on Senior Night, the Fish dropped to 12-13 on the season with their 1-3 defeat at the hands of Lynn University. The Sailfish also were defeated back on September 15th when they stumbled to 1-3 decision in Boca Raton.

Honoring both Ali Mitchell and Bia Santos before the contest, the Sailfish jumped out to an early match lead when they took down the Knights 30-27 in game number one. With LU head coach Lynze Roos making a lineup change which included the switching of team libero, the Fighting Knights would never look back, winning the final three games 30-24, 30-21, and 30-28 to take the match.

With the match victory, Lynn improves to 16-7 on the year and continues their march to hopeful postseason play as they compete in the highly competitive Sunshine State Conference.

Pacing the Sailfish attack was senior Bia Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Brittany Erickson (La Mesa, Calif.) with 16 kills each. Santos tallied a .333 hitting percentage for the match with only four attack errors in 36 attempts.

Perhaps their most balanced offensive and defensive player, Santos finished with three solo blocks, three blocking assists, and 17 digs for the match. Sophomore defensive specialist Jennifer Eldridge (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer HS) registered a team-leading 22 digs for PBA.

Junior Emily Ryerson (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) notched 44 assists in the loss while also contributing 12 digs.

On the Lynn side, the Fighting Knights were paced by the hard-hitting presence of junior Camila Lins (Recife, Brazil) who totaled 20 kills and 12 digs. She also led the Lynn squad with three service aces. Other Lynn attackers reaching double-digits in kills included Irmina Zamara (Wroclaw, Poland) and Daris Rodriguez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) with 19 and 12 kills respectively.

After sitting out the first game, setter Devon Woolard (Delray Beach, Fla./Spanish River HS) entered and quickly gave the Knights an edge and ended the match with 43 assists. Lacy Redwine (New Braunfels, Texas) guided the LU backrow with a 25 dig performance in the win.

PBA’s next contest and their final home date of the season is scheduled for Friday, October 19th when they play host to Barry University with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
