Matteo joined the Sailfish squad in the Summer of 2026 where he serves as the teams goalkeeper coach.
He joins the Sailfish after being a youth coach for the New England Surf in Boston, Massachusetts where he was the lead coach for the 2010 and 2014 age groups alongside being the goalkeeper coach for the entire youth program.
In addition, Matteo also served as the Goalkeeper Director for semi-pro NPSL team West Texas FC where he helped the team win the conference regular season championship, the El Dustico Championship, and help the team be a Lonestar Conference Playoff Finalist.
Prior to being a coach, Matteo's playing career began in his home country of Italy, where he grew up in the ranks of his local club U.S. Cremonese, being apart of their U15-17 squads including the team's second squad before being called up to the teams senior squad in 2020-21 season when the team was in Seire B, the Italian second division. Along with this, Matteo made some appearances for country as he was called to play for the Italian U15 national team.
After his stint in Italy, Matteo journied over to the US where he began his collegiate playing career for Indian Hills CC in the NJCAAÂ before finishing his collegiate career with NAIA program Falkner University in Alabama.
Matteo also brings in professional playing experience in the US as well as he played in the USL2 for the Ocean City Nor'easters and the United States GCPL for Sowegans Soccer Club.
