MIAMI SHORES, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer tied Barry 0-0 on Wednesday in their open to conference play. The Sailfish kept the match scoreless during a first-half stretch from 31:24 to 42:42 in which they faced nine Barry attacking actions without conceding. Barry finished with a 26-6 shot advantage and put 17 shots on goal, while the Sailfish made 16 saves and recorded one shot on goal.
The Sailfish reached halftime without conceding.
Brooke Delzatto and the defense survived two Barry attacking stretches. Barry pressed early from 1:22 to 8:17, but Delzatto made two saves and the defense was credited with saving the third shot on goal. The 'Fish answered with their own set-piece stretch, earning corner kicks at 9:35 and 17:32 while
Madison Kovar and
Kendall Popp put shots toward goal. Barry pushed again from 31:24 to 42:42, including a shot off the woodwork, but Delzatto kept the net empty keeping it even at the half.
The Sailfish kept the match scoreless through Barry's late pressure. Despite
Madison Kovar receiving a red card, the Sailfish kept the Bucs in port. Delzatto earned 16 saves during the game stopping every ball sent her way.
Meren Patton sent the team's first shot of the half high right.
Kayla Sciortino forced a save from Marlen Hernandez in the 68th, and the Sailfish added another look from
Cassidy Norley followed by a corner kick in the 73rd minute. Barry finished the half with 11 shots to the Sailfish's three, but Delzatto's saves ended the game in a nil-nil draw.
Delzatto recorded 16 saves over 90 minutes and finished with a shutout, making 10 stops in the first half and six in the second. She has not allowed a gaol in her two appearances this season.
The Sailfish return to the Rinker Athletic Campus on Saturday to host Rollins at 6:00 p.m.
