Softball Falls In Season Finale

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team faced Rollins College in a doubleheader on Saturday at MLK Park, resulting in a close 3-2 loss in the first game followed by a challenging 14-1 defeat in the second.

Today's games marked the final games of 2026 for PBA. The Sailfish finished with a 21-30 overall record and 11-19 mark in conference play under first year head coach Kasey Cox. The Sailfish improved throughout the season, winning four of their last five conference series and winning 13 of their last 19 games. The squad finished with their most wins since 2019.

Game One - Rollins: 3, PBA: 2

In Game 1, the Sailfish recorded three doubles among their five hits, but the Tars capitalized on seven hits and five walks to secure the win. Palm Beach Atlantic started strong in the first inning with Dianna Montidoro doubling down the left field line, followed by Rhiannon Sibbett and Rylee Little walking to load the bases. Larken Maseda's sacrifice fly brought Montidoro home, tying the game after Rollins scored on a double in its half of the inning, leaving the score at 1-1 at the end of the first inning.

In the third inning, the Tars regained the lead with a double and a single, putting them ahead 2-1. The 'Fish responded in the fourth inning with Maseda singling and Savanna Lee pinch running. After a fielding error and a muffed throw, Lee scored an unearned run, leveling the score at 2-2. However, the Tars took the lead in the fifth inning when they scored on a sacrifice fly, making it 3-2. Despite the Sailfish's efforts, including a double by Montidoro in the seventh inning, the 'Fish were shut out by Rollins as the Tars leveled the series with a 3-2 win.

Montidoro recorded two hits, both doubles, contributing one run in the game. Maseda collected two hits, bringing in one run with a sacrifice fly and adding a double. Little pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts and three walks. Kierea Smits provided one inning on the mound, conceding one hit and issuing one walk.

Game Two - Rollins: 14, PBA: 1

In Game 2, Palm Beach Atlantic suffered a 14-1 defeat against Rollins College. The Tars jumped to an early lead with a seven-run first inning, while the Sailfish managed only one hit in the game. Palm Beach Atlantic opened the game with a walk by Dianna Montidoro, followed by Larken Maseda's single to left field. Montidoro advanced to third base but was caught stealing home. Maseda later scored on a fielding error by first base, giving the 'Fish an early lead. However, Rollins quickly responded with seven runs in the bottom half, highlighted by an RBI single and a two-RBI single.

In the second inning, PBA was unable to score despite reaching base on an error. Rollins extended its lead with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly. In the third, the Sailfish failed to generate offense as Rollins capitalized with five runs, including a three-RBI triple. The fourth and fifth innings were quiet for both teams, with no further scoring. Rollins took the series with a 14-1 win.
