HIALEAH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team (11-25, 1-14 SSC) clinched two thrilling victories over Florida National (20-13, 1-0 CCAC) on Monday afternoon, winning 7–6 in game one and 3–2 in game two.
PBA is back in action on Friday at Lynn. The game in Boca Raton, Fla. is set for 3:00 p.m.
Game One - PBA: 7, FNU: 6
The game unfolded as a dramatic extra-innings contest. The scoreboard remained untouched through the first two innings, showcasing a tight defensive battle. The 'Fish broke the deadlock in the third inning when
Rhiannon Sibbett crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly to center field by
Larken Maseda. Sibbett's run was one of three she scored in the game, marking a season-high achievement.
Florida National responded in the fourth inning, leveling the score at 1–1 with a single up the middle. The game stayed tied until the eighth inning, which brought a surge of scoring action. The Sailfish found momentum with a four-run inning, highlighted by key plays such as a single from
Holly Frankl that brought home two runs, aided by a throwing error, and a sacrifice bunt by
Kierea Smits, allowing another runner to score.
Addley Dean doubled other left-center, driving in Maseda and pushing the 'Fish to a 5–1 lead. Dean's performance continued her streak with at least two hits in back-to-back games. However, the Conquistadors matched with a four-run inning of their own, including a three-run homer that tied the score at 5–5.
In the ninth inning, the 'Fish reclaimed their lead.
Rylee Little, placed on second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored alongside Sibbett thanks to a clutch single by
Dianna Montidoro. This pushed the 'Fish ahead 7–5. Florida National managed to add one more run in their half of the ninth, but the Sailfish held on for a tense 7–6 victory.
Maseda contributed with a hit and an RBI, also adding a stolen base to her stats. Sibbett's three runs and two hits proved crucial. Montidoro added two hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Little delivered an impressive performance in the circle, pitching six innings with 14 strikeouts, conceding four hits, and allowing three earned runs.
Lauren Allen pitched three innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, while securing a strikeout.
Game Two - PBA: 3, FNU: 2
The Sailfish snagged a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Florida National in a gripping contest. The 'Fish showcased stellar pitching, racking up six strikeouts and giving up just five hits.
Ashlyn Storms led the charge with three strikeouts, hitting a season high.
In the first inning,
Rhiannon Sibbett got things rolling for the Sailfish with a single and a stolen base.
Larken Maseda followed with a clutch single to left center, driving Sibbett home and putting PBA on the board. Florida National responded with a sacrifice fly, evening the score at 1–1 by the inning's end.
The second inning saw
Brianna Cabrera single and later score on
Dianna Montidoro's double, pushing the Sailfish ahead 2–1. Montidoro continued her hitting streak, securing her second straight game with multiple hits. Meanwhile, PBA's defense held Florida National scoreless, maintaining the lead through the inning.
The game saw a brief tie in the fourth inning when FNU knotted it at 2–2 with a double that brought a runner home from second.
The Sailfish made their decisive move in the seventh inning. Maseda's single and advancement to third set the stage for Cabrera's sacrifice fly, which brought Maseda home, sealing the 3–2 lead. The Conquistadors couldn't rally in their final at-bat, cementing the win for Palm Beach Atlantic.
Maseda delivered two hits in four at-bats, contributing a key RBI. Storms worked 3.1 innings, surrendering four hits and two earned runs while fanning three. Little came through with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three and securing the save.
Kaitlyn Campbell made a pinch-hitting appearance, adding a hit and swiping two bases.
Kierea Smits' two scoreless innings, kept the FNU offense at bay, showcasing the 'Fish's pitching depth.
