WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team faced a tough challenge at Simpson Field, falling 4-0 to Eckerd (24-6, 14-2 SSC). Despite a spirited effort, the Sailfish (8-24, 0-13 SSC) were held to just one hit, while Eckerd capitalized on their scoring chances with two key innings.
The 'Fish had opportunities to score throughout the game but couldn't quite capitalize. After a walk and an Eckerd error, PBA had runners at the corners in the bottom of the first, but came up empty.
In the third inning, Eckerd broke the deadlock with a pair of two-run singles that set the tone. The Tritons extended their lead in the fifth with a double and a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 4-0.
The Sailfish tried to make some noise in the bottom of the fifth.
Holly Frankl notched PBA's first hit of the game. After a fielder's choice,
Miranda Rollins stole second to give the 'Fish a runner in scoring position. Unfortunately for PBA, she was left stranded.
On the mound,
Rylee Little delivered a strong relief performance, pitching 2.2 innings without allowing a run, striking out three, and issuing no walks.
Lauren Allen started the game, going 4.1 innings, with three strikeouts, conceding four earned runs.
Marli Szierer reached on an error twice in the game.
The Sailfish take on the Tritons in a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon at Simpson Field.
