WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Sailfish fought hard but fell to Tampa 2-0 at Simpson Field on Friday evening. Despite a strong showing from
Lauren Allen in the circle, allowing just three hits over seven innings, the 'Fish offense was held in check by the Spartans' pitchers, who tallied 10 strikeouts.
It was a tight matchup between PBA and Tampa, with the game locked at 0-0 through the first three innings as both teams struggled to seize early chances.
The fourth inning saw Tampa take the lead when Cam Feast drew a walk and later crossed the plate on a Sailfish error, giving Tampa a 1-0 edge. The Sailfish defense held firm to prevent further scoring, keeping it 1-0 at the close of the inning.
Tampa extended its lead in the fifth. Kenzie Reynolds singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Kinnah Kreidler, bringing the score to 2-0. The Sailfish had few chances to counter, with
Rylee Little connecting for a double in the seventh. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, she was left stranded.
Tampa's pitching and defense kept PBA at bay, holding onto their 2-0 advantage through the final inning. The game wrapped up with the Spartans taking home the win.
Allen pitched a complete game for the Sailfish, giving up just three hits and striking out three over seven innings. She allowed two runs, only one earned, while walking five. This marked her third complete game of the season. Little and
Miranda Rollins recorded PBA's lone hits.
The Sailfish play a doubleheader against the Spartans on Saturday. Game one at Simpson Field is set for 12 p.m.
