WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Sailfish faced a tough match against Flagler on Saturday at PBA SoccerLacrosse Field, falling 18-7. Even in defeat, Palm Beach Atlantic showcased some tenacity with four unassisted goals.
The first quarter kicked off with a tight contest. Flagler's Ava Lambros struck first at 10:08, assisted by Ella Pinder, but the 'Fish quickly countered.
Izzy King found the net at 5:10, thanks to an assist from
Olivia Larges, leveling the game.
Annika Limpert's goal at 3:13, assisted by
Kaitlyn Gallagher, briefly put PBA ahead, but a man-up goal by Flagler's Carley Tepel at 1:03, assisted by Lambros, nudged Flagler ahead 3-2 as the quarter closed.
Flagler took the reins in the second quarter, starting with a Lambros goal just five seconds in, following a turnover by PBA's
Georgia Karns. Lambros continued her impressive run with two more, including one from a free position, sparking a 9-0 streak for Flagler. Jessica Wright added two goals, one assisted by Lambros, and Izzy Campos wrapped up the quarter with a goal at 0:59, again assisted by Lambros. The 'Fish found it difficult to hold possession and convert opportunities, stymied by Flagler's defense and goalkeeper Dakota Capolino.
In the third quarter,
Peyton Sutton led a spirited response for the 'Fish, netting two goals at 12:50 and 11:15, one from a free position.
Skylar Splinter added another at 9:06. Flagler answered with a series of goals, starting with Mia Cosentino's free-position shot at 7:23, followed by Tepel again at 6:19. Maya Elwood and Ella Parks extended Flagler's lead with goals at 4:25 and 2:16, as the visitors edged out the 'Fish 4-3 in this quarter.
The final quarter saw Flagler extend their lead with Maya Elwood scoring off a Virginia Fisher assist at 14:33. Palm Beach Atlantic pushed back with a man-up goal from Limpert, assisted by Sutton, at 9:23.
Taryn Thompson chipped in with her first goal of the season at 5:24, closing the gap slightly. Yet, Flagler's Jelly Schnell secured the lead with a goal at 3:10. The game concluded with both teams netting two goals each in the final quarter, Flagler taking the match 18-7.
Annika Limpert stood out for PBA, scoring twice on three shots, including a power-play goal.
Peyton Sutton showed her prowess with two goals and an assist, converting both of her shots. Samantha Thompson also added a goal on her single shot attempt. In goal,
Georgia Karns made five saves despite facing 27 shots, enduring a challenging day with 18 goals against.
