ALBANY, Ga. – Despite unwelcoming weather, the Palm Beach Atlantic men's golf team tied for fifth place at the Hurricane Invitational on Tuesday, October 6
th. The tournament was reduced to 36-holes, and
Reed Weekley took the lowest score for the Sailfish.
Round one took longer than usual, with golfers battling strong winds and rain throughout the day.
Aitor Macias Lopez was not deterred by the skies. He led the 'Fish with a score of 69, tying his best round of the season.
Li Kasule scored an even 72.
Chayton Jordan finished the day with a score of 73, and
Reed Weekley and
Jonah Leach tied at two-over-par, 74.
Niko Karoutsos competed individually with a score of 78 in round one.
The skies cleared but the wind did not relent on day two. Weekley took off with a strong start for the Sailfish. He earned a birdie on his first hole of the day. He also scored an eagle on hole-15, and finished the day three-under-par. His final score put him one-under-par, tying for 13
th. Lopez scored a 76, and ended the tournament one-over-par, tied for 22
nd. Jordan finished the day in 74 strokes, earning 33
rd in the tournament with a score of three-over-par. He tied with Kasule, who finished round two with a score of 75. Leach also scored a 75, and ended the tournament five-over-par tied for 44
th. Karoutsos finished the day one over par and tied for 54
th after finishing the tournament seven-over-par.
The team earned a final score of 581 through 36-holes. The team totaled 288 in round one and 293 in round two. They finished 20 strokes behind conference-opponent and tournament-winner, Nova Southeastern.
The team will take a week off before heading to Championsgate, Fla. for the Citrus Intercollegiate tournament.
