Women's Basketball Takes Down Spartans, 62-54

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team (7-9, 3-5) took down the University of Tampa (10-7, 5-3) with a 62-54 win at Rubin Arena, making the most of 25 points off turnovers.

Anabel Ellison led the charge with 22 points, hitting 7 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Maddie Wallhoff contributed a season-high 12 points, sinking all four of her 3-point shots, including a big one late and handing out five assists. While handling a tough assignment defensively, Breeje Schuler added 15 points, with six baskets, four steals, five rebounds, and five assists. KB Hadley stunted on the defensive end with four steals and contributed six points. Hadley came up with a big steal and lay-in late in the game to put the Sailfish back up two possessions.

The 'Fish started strong, opening the game with a turnover and quick layup by Schuler at 9:24, assisted by Wallhoff. Amidst the back-and-forth scoring early on, PBA edged ahead with Wallhoff's 3-pointer at 4:37, followed by Ellison's long-range success at 4:07, giving them a 10–9 lead. The Sailfish kept the pressure up, with Ellison adding a layup at 0:59. However, Tampa's free throws tied it up at 16–16 by the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw PBA ignite their offense, with Wallhoff nailing consecutive three-pointers, both set up by Hadley, to stretch the lead to 22-17. Ellison then drilled a 3-pointer at 6:16 and followed it up with a fast-break layup, causing Tampa to call timeout.

The Sailfish sustained their defensive effort, racking up five steals in the quarter. Hadley contributed with a fast-break layup, pushing the lead to 31-24. Despite Tampa's efforts to close the gap, the 'Fish held firm, heading into halftime with a 34-27 advantage.

In the third quarter, the Sailfish turned up the heat, shooting 8 of 13 from the field, including three treys. Ellison kicked things off with a 3-pointer at 9:52, courtesy of Wallhoff's assist, setting the tone. As Tampa struggled to keep up, Schuler's 3-pointer at 7:34 further extended PBA's lead.

Defensive pressure was the name of the game, forcing Tampa into five turnovers and holding them to just three field goals in the quarter. The Sailfish controlled the pace and finished the quarter ahead, 53–43.

In the final quarter, the Sailfish held their ground against Tampa's push. With 1:14 left, Wallhoff drained a crucial 3-pointer, assisted by Ellison, to push the lead to 56–52. Hadley then capitalized on a fast break layup after a steal, solidifying their hold at 58–52.

Ellison iced the game by sinking all four of her free throws in the final minute, extending the lead to 62–52. Tampa managed a tip-in at the buzzer, but it was too little, too late and the Sailfish came home with the big victory.

The Sailfish return to the floor this Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Rollins Tars make their way to West Palm Beach.
