WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic athletic department has announced the addition of sailing as an official club sport, further expanding recreational and competitive opportunities for PBA students.
The Sailfish sailing club will be led by head coach, Kirsten Delany. Delany graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic in 2019 and has served as the Sailing Director at PBA since 2021. Delany started the student-led sailing club at PBA as a student in fall of 2017. By Delany's senior year, she took the program to the next level, joining the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SAISA) division of the Intercollege Sailing Association (ICSA).
"After being involved with this program since its inception, I am so excited for it to be an official club sport with the university and to be fully involved in building it towards its highest potential," Delany said. "Carrying on our previous momentum, we hope to progress the Sailfish sailing program to new levels, representing PBA and Christ well in the sport of sailing. James 3:4 - Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs."
As a recognized club sport, the Sailfish sailing club will be open to students of all skill levels, from beginners interested in learning the basics to experienced sailors ready to compete. The team sails at the Palm Beach Sailing Club.Â
In its last year as a student club, the team competed in 11 regattas. PBA qualified in both the fall and spring for the regional championships as well as hosting a regatta for the first time in the school's history. The Sailfish also participated in a women's regatta for the first time in program history.
We are excited to launch the Sailfish sailing club and provide our students with another unique opportunity to compete and grow through sport," PBA Director of Athletics,
Courtney Lovely Evans said. "Kirsten has helped grow the program as a student club, and I look forward to seeing her lead our students as they represent PBA on the water while growing in faith, teamwork, and leadership."
The addition of sailing reflects Palm Beach Atlantic's continued commitment to student life and athletic involvement. Sailing joins eSports as PBA's second club sport.
