Softball Concludes Series at No. 2 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team concluded its series against No. 2 Tampa on Saturday.

The Spartans picked up where they left off after Friday's 9-0 win. Tampa clinched the series with a 10-1 victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The hosts completed the sweep by defeating the 'Fish 6-0 in game three.

PBA softball returns home to Simpson Field next weekend. The Sailfish begin a series against Nova Southeastern on Friday at 6 p.m.

Game One – Tampa: 10, PBA: 1

Kailtyn Campbell singled for the Sailfish in the first inning, but she was thrown out stealing to stymie PBA's momentum in the first. Larken Maseda led off the second with a base hit to left field, but she was stranded after a pair of popouts and a strikeout. Tampa got on the board with a seven-run second inning. The Spartans tallied five hits and two walks in the inning to take a 7-0 lead.

Rhiannon Sibbett walked to start the third for PBA, but the 'Fish failed to string a rally together after two strikeouts and a groundout. PBA pushed one run across in the fourth inning. Evoni Rodriguez walked and advanced to second on an error. Rylee Little came through with an RBI single to make it 7-1. Tampa answered with three runs on four hits with one walk in the bottom of the frame to take a 10-3 lead.

The Sailfish finished with three hits in the game. Lauren Allen started the game in the circle. She pitched 1.1 innings, surrendering five earned runs on four hits and two walks. Karen Vasquez tossed 2.2 innings of relief. She gave up three earned runs on five hits and two walks.

Game Two – Tampa: 6, PBA: 0

PBA got its first runner of game two on base thanks to a fielding error by the Spartans, but a 4-6-3 double play stunted the thought of a PBA rally. Tampa took another early lead, this time off a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Tampa scored a pair of runs in the second without registering a hit. A walk and a pair of errors allowed the Spartans to take a 3-0 lead through the first two innings.

The 'Fish earned a runner in scoring position in the third after Chloe Nepveux singled before moving to second on a sac bunt. Tampa recorded an error later in the frame, but Nepveux failed to make it home. Maseda and Bianca Green recorded singles in the fourth with one out, but the Sailfish could not bring them home. The Spartans tacked on two more in the fourth with three hits, including an RBI double, and two walks to take a 5-1 lead. The Spartans earned their last run on the basepaths in the sixth inning. A single, pair of wild pitches, and a walk put runners at the corners. Tampa executed a double steal to make it a 6-0 game. PBA came up empty in the top of the seventh.

PBA finished with four hits as a team. Little was the starting pitcher in the game. She pitched three innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Olivia Zimmer pitched three innings in relief. She gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks with one strikeout.
