WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women's tennis team fell to a second top team in the country in as many days on Wednesday afternoon. The Barry Buccaneers, the number one team in the country, came into the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center to take on the Sailfish.
The Sailfish were swept in doubles competition. Alina Hoermann and Valeria Lopez dropped the first matchup in the first position 0-6. Cecilia Peroni and Simona Hantzis Karlsson, playing in position number two, fell 1-6. In the third position was Elsa Brenner and Anarella Brito. Brito and Brenner played the closest match but ultimately fell 4-6.
Simona Hantzis Karlsson matched up with Viktoriia Dema in the second position but was unable to get the job done and fell 0-6, 3-6. It was the first match to finish, and the Sailfish found themselves down 1-0 early. In the second match to finish, Frida Alsterhem fell to Ailen Crespo by a score of 1-6, 1-6.
In the third singles match to finish, Alessia Passerini kept things close with Dinara Alloiarova in the fifth position close but ultimately fell 3-6, 4-6. In a battle of Alina's in position number one, Alina Hoermann fell to Alina Michalitsch 0-6, 4-6 in the fourth match to wrap things up.
In the third position and the second last match to finish, Virginia Borja battled with Louane Lutringer but could not get over the hump and fell 4-6, 2-6. With the match already clinched for Barry, Angela Leweurs and Cecilia Peroni slugged it out in the fourth position.
The Sailfish return to the court on Friday at noon when they head up to St. Augustine to take on Flager.
