WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team fell to the #7 Nova Southeastern Sharks, 76-65, at Rubin Arena, despite multiple comeback attempts. The Sailfish gave a strong effort against the undefeated opponent but were unable to get the win.
Blanche Toualeu scored 15 points, recorded six rebounds, and added two blocks with two steals.
KB Hadley contributed 14 points and posted five assists.
Breeje Schuler added 12 points and collected seven rebounds.
Darria Whitley tallied 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
The opening quarter began with the Sailfish initially matching Nova Southeastern's momentum, highlighted by Hadley's jumper at 8:32, assisted by
Anabel Ellison. However, Nova Southeastern capitalized on turnovers, creating a gap with a 12–0 run midway through the quarter. The 'Fish managed to close the quarter with a layup from Toualeu, assisted by Hadley, but trailed 20–10 at the end of the first.
PBA initiated a strong push midway through the quarter, capitalizing on a fast-break layup by Ellison at 7:12 and a 3-pointer by Whitley at 5:58. Despite this momentum, Nova Southeastern surged ahead with a series of successful shots, highlighted by Kaliyah Morales' layup and free throw at 3:55, widening their lead. The home team showed resilience with a late rally, including a layup by Schuler at 0:54, but still trailed 45-32 by the end of the second quarter.
The Sailfish gained momentum early in the third quarter with back-to-back fast-break 3-pointers by Ellison and Whitley at 7:56 and 7:00, narrowing Nova Southeastern's lead. Despite facing a defensive challenge and committing several fouls, the Sailfish continued to find scoring opportunities, highlighted by Toualeu's tip-in and a late 3-pointer by Whitley at 00:20. The quarter concluded with both teams scoring 19 points, resulting in a 64-51 final score favoring Nova Southeastern.
The Fish pushed hard in the final frame, highlighted by Schuler's 3-pointer at the 2:07 mark, narrowing the gap against Nova Southeastern.
Maddie Wallhoff contributed with a crucial offensive rebound, while Whitley and Ellison each recorded steals to keep the pressure on. Despite their efforts, Nova Southeastern maintained their lead throughout the quarter. The game concluded with Nova Southeastern securing a 76-65 victory.
The Sailfish return to the court a week from today when they take on Ave Maria at 1 p.m. at the Lynn Holiday Classic.Â
