Sailfish Equalize Late, Earn 1-1 Draw with Embry-Riddle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team earned a draw against the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Wednesday night's midweek SSC matchup. The Sailfish went 89:59 without a goal before Maddie Hulme tied the match up with 0.5 seconds left.

The Eagles controlled possession early in the game and pressured the Sailfish defense. Just eight minutes into the first half, the Eagles created a nice passing play and found the back of the net past Brooke Delzatto. Later in the half, Delzatto made a few big saves but had to exit the match after a collision inside the six-yard box and Keira Dawley entered the matchup as the Sailfish keeper.

The Sailfish pressed back in the second half with multiple chances and shots but all were met with a save by the Eagles' keeper. Meren Patton and Jordan Lavery both put shots on frame but couldn't find the back of the net.

With just around 35 seconds left, as the Sailfish tried to find an equalizer, the ball went out of bounds for an Eagles goal kick. On the ensuing goal kick, the ball bounced around off multiple players for one touch each before the ball fell to Jordan Lavery. Lavery played a hard ball toward the box where it took a deflection of an Eagle defender and fell right to the feet of Maddie Hulme who was onside and in all alone with the keeper. Hulme calmly rolled it past the keeper and into the bottom left corner of the net with just half a second left in the match.

Hulme found the equalizer and quickly found herself under a dogpile of the entire Sailfish squad. With just 0.5 seconds on the clock, the Eagles lined up for the kickoff but as they played a long ball towards Dawley but time expired with the ball in the air.

The Sailfish return to action on Saturday night when they take on Eckerd at 6 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
