BIRMINGHAM, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team played for the second time in three days as they faced West Alabama on the road today. The Sailfish wrapped up their Alabama trip by falling 1-0 against the Tigers to fall to 1-1-1 on the season.
The Sailfish came out of the gates on the front foot, taking it to the West Alabama defense. In the opening 15 minutes of play the 'Fish outshot the home side 6-0 but were not able to break through. Despite the two sides combining for 16 shots in the first 45 minutes of play, there was just one save made in the scoreless opening half which came by PBA goalie
Flavio Giannini making his season debut in net.Â
PBA seemed to be controlling much of the play in the second half as they outshot West Alabama 11-5 in the second half. However, of the 19 shots from PBA, just one was on target and saved by the Tigers keeper. Forward
Agustin Iusem led PBA with six shots while
Narcis Bou Dalmau had five.
The one goal in the game came from the home team in the 80th minute as the Tigers beat Giannini in net. The Sailfish were unable to respond before running out of time despite having six more shots and ten more corners than their hosts.
The Sailfish get a full week off to travel home and recover before their next match which sees them head to Saint Leo on Sep. 21. It is the Sunshine State Conference opener for PBA against a Lions side that is 0-3-1 so far on the season.
