The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team played host to the Spring Hill Badgers on Thursday night in the Sailfish' second home game of the season. The Sailfish, behind a two-goal performance from Isabella Reinhardt, defeated the Badgers by a score of 2-1.
Riding off the momentum of a 4-1 victory at Webber International on Tuesday, the Sailfish dominated possession for the majority of the game. In the first half, both teams were held scoreless by stellar defensive play in the opponent's final third. PBA kept the Badger goalie busy all game, peppering her with a season-high nine shots on goal.
The game was deadlocked at zero until Isabella Reinhardt broke the ice in the 71st minute. Reinhardt, a senior forward from Colorado, collected a rebound from a Maddy Nelson strike and slotted it home past the keeper. Just two minutes and fourteen seconds later, Reinhardt would strike again. With a curling shot around the defender, she took the goalkeeper by surprise and placed the ball into the side netting.
Thanks to excellent defensive and midfield play from players like Emily Rinaldi, Lea Loubier and Maddy Nelson, the Sailfish continued to dominate possession into the waning minutes of the match.
However, with just under two minutes remaining, the Sailfish got caught out in the counterattack. Felicia Ajayi got behind the Sailfish defense, walked in all alone and put a powerful shot past Sammy Peebles who relieved Taylor Jackson at the halftime break.
PBA would hold on during the final two minutes to take home its first home victory of the season. The Sailfish will try to keep up the home cooking on September 16th when they take on the USCB Sand Sharks at 4 p.m.
