Sailfish Battle With Ranked Lions On the Road

ST. LEO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team was back in action today as they hit the road to face the No. 16 ranked Saint Leo Lions. The ranked home side jumped on top of the Sailfish in the second quarter, as PBA fell 18-5.

Coming off a strong performance against Embry-Riddle in their last outing, the Sailfish were in a tight battle after 15 minutes of play. Ella Howlin led the PBA offense as she scored both Sailfish goals in the opening quarter. Georgia Karns got the start in the cage for the 'Fish and was able to make three saves early on as PBA trailed by just one goal, 3-2.

The momentum changed in the second quarter, as the home side went on a 7-1 scoring run to take control of the game. SLU outshot PBA 14-5 in the quarter as Sailfish leading-scorer Rachel Delate scored the lone goal during the run. Karns was able to make four saves in the second quarter but the Sailfish trailed 10-3.

The second half started with a defensive third quarter as the Lions scored the lone three goals. SLU managed 19 shots in the second half while PBA had 10 of their own. Annika Limpert and Julia Gibson found the back of the net in the fourth quarter for PBA. Draw controls were even for the game as each side won 13, but the Lions did a better job taking advantage of their possessions.

Karns finished with 12 saves on the afternoon. SLU was strong defensively, limiting PBA's best scoring options Delate, Howlin, and Addyson Johnson to just three combined points. Taryn Thompson led the way for the Sailfish by picking up four ground balls while Sara Metheny continues to be one of the best players on the field for PBA, finishing with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Sailfish wrap up their regular season this Saturday as they host Florida Southern. The Moccasins are ranked No. 4 in the nation and carry an 11-3 record.
