WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team hosted SSC opponent Florida Tech on Friday night.
PBA looked to build off its series win against No. 3-ranked Tampa last weekend. The Sailfish took a short hiatus for spring break before returning to face the Panthers. The 'Fish couldn't keep the offense going against Florida Tech. The Panthers won the game in five innings, 8-0. The Sailfish did not record a hit in the contest.
The Panthers scored two unearned runs to open the game, taking advantage of a leadoff walk and a throwing error. FT rallied with two outs in the second inning to plate three more runs on four hits and take a 5-0 lead. The visitors tacked on another run in the third off a solo home run. Lastly, the Panthers mustered another two-out rally, scoring two runs on three hits.
PBA had a chance to stay alive in the fifth inning.
Isabella Hernandez reached on an error to start the frame. She advanced to second on a sac bunt.
Toree Hoobler walked, putting runners on first and second. A groundout moved the runners to second and third. A strikeout ended the rally and the game for PBA, 8-0.
Karen Vasquez started the game in the circle. She tossed two innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk.
Chloe Nepveux pitched three innings of relief. She surrendered three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
The Sailfish take on the Panthers again on Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader takes place at noon.
