Softball Takes Both Games Over Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team began its series against Lynn on Thursday.

The Sailfish hosted the game at Simpson Field but were considered the visiting team. Lynn was supposed to host the game in Boca Raton, but the series was moved due to construction at the Lynn field. The Sailfish won both games thanks to excellent pitching performances from Karen Vasquez and Cambria Arturo. PBA won the first game 5-1 before clinching the series by winning the second game 2-1.

PBA concludes its series against the Fighting Knights on Friday. The first pitch at Simpson Field at 1 p.m.

Game One – PBA: 5, Lynn: 0

The Sailfish started the scoring in game one. A single by Gracie Mullett and an error by Lynn set up an RBI single from Isabella Hernandez to make it 1-0. The 'Fish plated two more runs in the second. Kaitlyn Campbell drove in Elisa Grande with an RBI double to left field. Gracie Mullett followed with an RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0.

Karen Vasquez was dominant in her first five innings of work. She did not allow a hit and only surrendered one walk. She was given more run support in the fifth. A Lynn error and a bunt single set up Hernandez for another RBI single to drive in Mullett. In the sixth inning, Mullett sent a slicing flyball into right-center to score Grande and make it 4-0. Lynn finally broke through in the sixth, scoring one run on three hits. She limited the damage, stranding runners and second and third.

Vasquez slammed the door shut in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to finish the 5-1 win. She gave up four hits and one walk in the game with four strikeouts. Mullett, Hernandez, and Toree Hoobler led the PBA offense with two hits each.

 Game Two – PBA: 2, Lynn: 1

The second game was more low-scoring, but the Sailfish still led early in the contest. Grande was hit by a pitch to start the game. Mullett singled to left and advanced on the throw to put runners on second and third. Hernandez grounded out to short, but that was enough to score Grande.

PBA got another run in the second inning. Larken Maseda reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second. Hernandez came through again with a grounding a single up the middle to make it a 2-0 game.

Cambria Arturo was cruising through the Lynn lineup until the sixth inning. The Fighting Knights played some small ball to push one run across. The go-ahead run reached second base, but Arturo forced a groundout to end the inning.
The Sailfish held on to win 2-1 to clinch the three-game series. Arturo gave up one run on six hits with five strikeouts. Mullett led PBA with a pair of hits, while Hernandez finished with two RBIs.
