WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic tennis team faced off against Catawba in a regional match on Saturday.
The Sailfish earned a point in the match thanks to a victory by
Cecilia Peroni at No. 5 singles, but PBA came up short in the match, 6-1.
PBA started the day with doubles play.
Sonya Hopfensperger and
Simona Karlsson Hantzis dropped No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Catawba clinched the doubles point by defeating Jelseyvette Croes and
Jasmine Williams 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Frida Alsterhem and
Alina Hoermann came up short at the No. 3 position, 6-4.
Williams faced a ranked opponent in singles play but had to retire after her first set at number one singles. Karlsson Hantzis lost her match at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Peroni got the Sailfish on the board, winning at No. 5 singles, 7-6, 6-3. Catawba still clinched the match after winning at No. 4 singles against
Virginia Borja, 7-6 (10), 6-0. Alsterhem rounded out the PBA lineup, competing at number six singles. She forced three sets but lost 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
The Sailfish women's tennis team competes against on Thursday against St. Thomas. The match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center takes place at 11:30 a.m.
