Women’s Soccer Wins Home Finale 1-0 over Rollins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Led by Taylor Jackson's first clean sheet of the season and a goal from Marina Leal, the Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team defeated Rollins College by a score of 1-0 on Saturday evening in their home finale.

It was largely an uneventful first half as both teams were feeling each other out. The best chance for either side came on a Marina Leal break on a great ball from Emma Canty in the 23rd minute of play. A great save from the Tars keeper kept the game scoreless.

Much of the same story as the second half wore on for both teams. Chances for both but both goalkeepers were up to the task.

Enter Marina Leal

Leal won two different one on one battles against Tar defenders, cut into the box, and placed a shot into the back of the net. Her seventh goal of the season gave the Sailfish a one-goal advantage with a half-hour left in the match.

After Leal's goal, the Tars offense picked up its intensity. Taylor Jackson and the Sailfish defense proved to be up to the task.

With multiple blocks, the Sailfish defense held its own in the final minutes. The best Tar chance came with the ball falling to the Tar attacker inside the box with a clear path to the goal. A shot on target but Jackson responded with her best save of the game to keep the one-goal lead.

The Sailfish killed the remainder of the clock for their second conference win of the season.

PBA returns to action for their final game of the regular season next Thursday at Tampa in a rescheduled match.
