Softball Drops Friday Night Game to Rollins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team dropped the opening game of its series against Rollins on Friday night.

The Sailfish offense had no answers for the Rollins (33-12, 23-8 SSC) pitching staff. PBA (15-22, 8-17 SSC)  broke through with a run in the second inning, but that was all the 'Fish could muster. The Tars tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings to take a two-run lead. The visitors held on to win, 3-1.

Daylin Hejtmanek and Bella O'Connor accounted for both PBA hits in the game.

Lacy Marty started the contest in the circle. She pitched four innings, giving up three runs on six hits with one strikeout. Chloe Nepveux stepped up in relief. She entered the game in the fifth and threw three scoreless innings.

Rollins jumped ahead in the first inning thanks to a leadoff double followed by a single to centerfield. PBA tied it back up in the bottom of the second inning. Larken Maseda started the rally with a walk, followed by a double down the left-field line from O'Connor to put runners on second and third. PBA got a run after a walk from Madison Schlichte loaded the bases and Isabella Hernandez was hit by a pitch to make it 1-1.

The game did not stay tied for long. Three hits in the third inning made it a 2-1 game. A Tar's solo home run in the fourth inning made it 3-1 which proved to be enough run support for Rollins' pitching for the rest of the game.

PBA concludes its final home series of 2023 tomorrow at Simpson Field. The first pitch of tomorrow's doubleheader against the Tars takes place at 12 p.m.
