TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team concluded its series against No. 4-ranked Tampa on Saturday.
The Sailfish couldn't recover from a big first inning from the Spartans in game one. A three-run first inning helped lift Tampa over PBA, 4-1. The Spartans took advantage of some PBA errors in game two, taking it 8-0.
PBA continues its SSC schedule next weekend with a three-game series against Nova Southeastern. The first pitch at PBA's Simpson Field takes place Friday night at 6 p.m.
Game One - Tampa: 4, PBA: 1
Tampa scored three runs on three hits, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly to take a quick 3-0 lead. PBA got one back in the top of the second.
Elisa Grande walked and scored on an RBI triple down the right-field line from
Bella O'Connor to make it 3-1.
Lacy Marty got the start in the circle for PBA. She settled down after the first inning, holding the Spartans scoreless for four innings. Tampa plated an insurance run in the sixth on two hits.
The Sailfish were held to three hits in the contest. Marty finished with a line of four earned runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Game Two - Tampa: 8, PBA: 1
Five errors in the first two innings cost the Sailfish six runs as Tampa jumped ahead early. That was too much for the 'Fish to overcome. PBA fell in five innings, 8-0.
Daylin Hejtmanek and
Madison Schlichte recorded PBA's two hits in the game.
Karen Vasquez started the game in the circle. She did not surrender an earned run, pitching one inning and giving up five runs on four hits with one walk.
Chloe Nepveux pitched one inning in relief, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
Ashlyn Storms tossed 2.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and five walks.
