Softball Picks Up Win over WLU

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team finished its busy weekend with a single game against West Liberty on Sunday.

A big fourth inning that featured five runs for the Sailfish (5-4), powered PBA to a 6-1 victory. Chloe Nepveux earned the win in the circle, and Lacy Marty earned the save after pitching three innings in relief against WLU (1-6).

Briana Rodriguez and Evoni Rodriguez led PBA with two hits each. B. Rodriguez recorded an RBI, a run, and a stolen base. Elisa Grande and Daylin Hejtmanek accounted for two RBIs each. Rhiannon Sibbett finished with three walks, a run, and a stolen base.

Nepveux started strong, tallying a pair of strikeouts in the first inning. PBA got her some run support in the second inning. A leadoff single by Kendall Baer, an error by the Hilltoppers, and a walk by Sibbett loaded the bases. Hejtmanek drove in the first run of the game via a sacrifice fly to right field.

Nepveux kept the visitors scoreless through four innings, exiting the game having surrendered four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

A leadoff single by Gracie Mullett, another error from the Hilltoppers, and another walk by Sibbett loaded the bases with no outs. A groundball to third hit by Hejtmanek was in the hole just enough to score Mullett. B. Rodriguez singled through the right side to drive in Bella O'Connor and make it a 3-0 game. Larken Maseda hit a line drive to left field that was deep enough for Sibbett to score. Lastly, Elisa Grande came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit 2-RBI single to give the Sailfish a 6-0 lead.

That was plenty of run support for Marty who entered the circle for PBA in the sixth inning. She pitched three innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk.

WLU scored in the seventh inning on three hits, but a flyball to left field ended the Hilltoppers' comeback. Marty sealed the 6-1 win for the Sailfish.

The Sailfish begin their SSC slate next weekend when they host Saint Leo. The first pitch of the series takes place at 6 p.m. on Friday night at Simpson Field.
