FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team was back in action this afternoon for the second straight day as they squared off with Purdue Northwest. The Sailfish offense struggled to get going in this one, as they scored a season-low point total, in a 73-58 defeat. PBA's record drops to 3-2 while the Lions move to 3-3 on the season.
The two sides played out an even opening quarter as the Lions led by just one after ten minutes of play. Just three Sailfish scored as PBA shot 6-of-17 from the field, led by
Ashleigh Boulin who scored six of her team-high 18 points.
Kash Ayuso added four while
Jahnae Midget added three but PBA trailed 14-13.Â
The deficit started to grow in the second quarter as the Lions scored 24 points in the quarter. They were able to go 6-of-11 from the floor and get to the free-throw line twelve times, converting on ten. The 'Fish were able to get up a large volume of shots in the quarter as they got 23 attempts but they hit on just seven of those. Boulins scored another seven points in the frame as she was really the only efficient PBA member on the afternoon going 8-for-14 from the floor. The Sailfish trailed 38-30 at the halftime break.
The Sailfish were outscored in each quarter in the second half as offensively they managed 28 points in the second half. They shot 34 percent from the field overall and went without a three-pointer made on the night. PBA was outscored by 24 points from beyond the arc as they finished 0-for-18 while the Lions finished 8-of-21. The 'Fish felt the impact playing without starting guard
Darria Whitley who entered as the team's second leading scorer at just over 12 points per game. The Sailfish closed the game on a 7-0 to close the deficit but the final was already set as PBA fell by 15.
Mariyah Fletcher was the lone other Sailfish to score in double figures as she finished with ten points and six rebounds.
Claire Davis finished the game with eight points but on 3-of-13 shooting from the field.
The Sailfish enter conference play the next time they take the floor as they will travel to take on Barry on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The Bucs are 2-3 so far on the early season.
