Sailfish Down Mocs 2-1 in Home SSC Clash

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – In a tense Sunshine State Conference match held at the Rinker Athletic Campus, the Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team (5-4-2) outlasted the Florida Southern Moccasins (4-3-5) with a 2-1 win, courtesy of a standout performance from Tin Vastic who found the back of the net twice.

The game started favoring the 'Fish, with Tin Vastic opening the score sheet just 11 minutes in. Luke Imgrund played a cross that found Vastic at the back post and the Sailfish forward's acrobatic finish found the back of the net. The 'Fish maintained pressure throughout the first half with a series of corners and free kicks, as they outshot FSC 4-3 in the opening half. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the 'Fish as the whistle blew for halftime.

The Mocs came back rejuvenated in the second half. Five minutes after play resumed, Matthew Male leveled the scores for FSC. However, the 'Fish regained the lead within a minute as an assisted corner kick from Yannick Toth found Vastic, who brilliantly headed it in, marking his second for the night.

Both teams vied for control as the game progressed, but the 'Fish's defense, led by goalie Salvador Plaza, managed to fend off the Mocs. Plaza notably had three crucial saves on the night to keep Sailfish ahead.

PBA was the stronger side in the half as they outshot Florida Southern 8-5. The Sailfish were able to see out the game as the Moccasins came forward with a late onslaught. A tally of yellow cards indicated the heightened emotions of the match, with the 'Fish picking up a total of six throughout the game while the visitors had three of their own. By the end of the intense bout, the 'Fish had taken a total of 12 shots, with five on target.

With this win, the 'Fish enhanced their position in the Sunshine State Conference standings as they move up to the sixth position with seven points while having two games in hand over Nova Southeastern one spot ahead of them.

The 'Fish will return to action in a week when they host the Florida Tech on Oct. 21 at Rinker Athletic Campus. The Panthers carry a 7-1-3 record and are coming off a 1-0 win over Barry.
