Box Score TAMPA, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team tied with the Tampa Spartans for a 1-1 draw. The Sailfish moved to 1-4-2 on the season.
Alyana Gonel scored her second goal of the season.
The Spartans out-shot the Sailfish 5-1 in the first 45. The Sailfish threatened offensively in the 40th minute when
Sydney Brewer took a shot toward the bottom center of the net. Her shot was saved by UT's goalkeeper. Both teams settled for a 0-0 stalemate at halftime.
The Spartans put seven shots on goal during the match. PBA goalkeeper
Taylor Jackson made her third career start in net and made four saves.
It wasn't till late in the second half that Tampa got on the scoreboard. In the 70th minute, the Spartans were awarded a penalty shot. UT's Stephanie deLaforcade converted the penalty to the bottom center of the net. UT led 1-0 with 20 minutes left.
The Sailfish answered back in the 85th minute. Gonel received a cross inside the box and launched a shot off her right foot to the back left corner of the net for a PBA equalizer. Gonel leads the team in goals with two and assists with one.
In the 88th minute, UT took one more shot that was blocked by the Sailfish defense. After 90 minutes, the 1-1 draw was final.
Next, the Sailfish return home for an SSC match against #21 Rollins on Saturday, Sep. 24.
