ST. LEO, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team continued Sunshine State Conference play today against Saint Leo. The Sailfish fell behind early and trailed throughout as they fell 18-4 against the Lions.
The Lions were the team that opened the scoring in the game as they scored four goals in the first quarter before the Sailfish were able to answer.
Kaelin DeNeui was the PBA player that was able to break through as she scored her sixth goal of the season at the 3:28 mark in the first quarter. That would be the only goal for the Sailfish in the opening half of play as they were outshot 15-7 in shots on goal. The Lions lead 5-1 after the first and 11-1 as the teams went into the half.
Kiki Cinotti found
Katie Karlsen who was able to score at the end of the third quarter.
Megan Jackson and
Anna Laskaris each were able to score late in the fourth quarter but the Sailfish were never able to get the deficit back below ten to stop the running clock in the second half. The goals were Jackson's fourth and the team-leading 19th for Laskaris on the season.Â
The Sailfish won the battle of the draw controls 13-12 but were unable to do enough with the possession that they had, being outshot 33-17 for the game. Goalie
Courtney Rausch was coming off a school-record performance where she made 17 saves, but she was able to muster just eight today while allowing 18 goals.
PBA has two games remaining on the season and they will both be at home. They will host Lynn on April 20 before their season finale against Florida Southern on April 23.
