WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team concluded its series at Rollins with a Saturday doubleheader.
After winning Friday's game to take a lead in the series, the Sailfish hoped to clinch the three-game series against the Tars with a win in at least one of today's games. After being held to two runs last night, the Rollins offense regrouped to put up a combined 18 runs in the doubleheader. The Tars came back from a 3-0 deficit to take game one, 7-3. Game two was all about the Tars who won 11-1 to win the series.
The Sailfish return home next week to face Tampa in a three-game series that begins on Friday. The first pitch at Simpson Field on Friday starts at 6 p.m.
Game One - Rollins: 7, PBA: 3
PBA started the scoring in the top of the fourth inning in game one. The 'Fish had the bases loaded with one out which set up an RBI single by
Briana Rodriguez to score
Janie McCloskey.
Daylin Hejtmanek sent a line drive to right field which drove in
Hayley Haas and
Elisa Grande to give PBA a 3-0 lead.
Unfortunately for the 'Fish, their lead did not last long. Rollins scored four runs on five hits, including a two-run home run and a hit batter to take a 4-3 lead. The Tars scored three more runs in the fifth off three solo home runs to take a 7-3 lead. PBA mustered baserunners in the sixth and seventh innings but failed match the Rollins firepower. The Tars tied the series with a 7-3 win.
McCloskey and Rodriguez led PBA with two hots each. The 'Fish totaled nine hits in the game.
Lacy Marty got the start in the circle. She was nearly perfect through three innings until surrendering four runs in the fourth. She gave up four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Chloe Nepveux pitched 1.1 innings of relief, giving up three runs on six hits.
Cambria Arturo pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit.
Game Two - Rollins: 11, PBA: 1
Rollins wasted no time taking control in game two. The Tars got out to a quick 8-0 lead through three innings. PBA scratched across a run in the third inning, but that was the only run of game two.
The Sailfish offense was held to just two hits in the game.
Karen Vasquez was the starting pitcher for PBA. She got through one inning, allowed five runs on four hits and one walk. Arturo pitched three innings of relief, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
