Sailfish Go Down at Flagler Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team played their first game in over three weeks as they traveled to play the Flagler Saints. The Sailfish struggled to get much going as they fell 18-5 to drop their record to 1-1 on the season.

The Sailfish got off to a quick start, as they got on the board within the opening minute. A successful opening draw control gave the 'Fish possession which ended in Sara Metheny finding the back of the net to give PBA the 1-0 lead. After that however, the Sailfish failed to score from the remainder of the quarter and the Saints ran off a 6-0 scoring run to end the first quarter where the Sailfish were outshot 9-3 in shots on goal.

Neither side was able to do much on offense in the second quarter as Flagler won the period 2-1. Anna Laskaris scored to make the game 6-2 as PBA outshot the Saints 6-5 in the quarter but trailed 8-2 at the half. Sailfish goalie Courtney Rausch was named SSC Defensive Player of the Week after PBA's opening win, but she was unable to have a similar type of performance today as she made four saves of her five total saves in the first half.

Flagler opened the second half with four straight goals to build their lead to double-figures. Laskaris and Metheny each scored within 20 seconds of each other with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter, but Flagler led 13-4 after three quarters.

Addyson Johnson scored the lone PBA goal in the final quarter of play as the Saints went on to add five. Overall, PBA was outshot 29-16 and 23-14 in shots on goal. Laskaris and Metheny were the lone bright spots offensively as they each recorded two goals while defensively Johnson was the lone Sailfish player to cause more than one turnover with two.

The Sailfish will look to bounce back as they host Wingate on March 7. Wingate is currently 3-0 on the season.
