WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team took a break from Sunshine State Conference play tonight as they hosted the Johnson University Suns. The Sailfish exploded for an offensive onslaught as they outclassed the Suns and scored a school-record 107 points to move to 5-3 on the season.
The Sailfish were the superior side from the jump as they faced off against a lower-level side. They outscored the Suns 27-10 in the opening quarter and never looked back.
Alma Danielsson got off to a quick start as she scored five early. PBA shot 50 percent from the floor in the opening ten minutes of play and held the Suns to 26 percent.
The Sailfish dominated the second quarter of play, outscoring Johnson 25-5. The Sailfish had a balanced attack as six different players finished the night with double figures. The only area the 'Fish struggled in was shooting from deep as they were just 2-of-13 from three, but they didn't need them as they led 52-15 at the half.
Mariyah Fletcher returned for PBA after missing the Nova Southeastern game and she took over in the third quarter. She scored seven in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 18 points and pulled down eight boards.
Kash Ayuso was second on the night with 15 points while
Jillian Schenk,
Claire Davis,
Ashleigh Boulin, and Danielsson all scored double-figures.
PBA finished shooting 46 percent from the floor and hit a few threes late elevating the three-point percentage to 26 percent. PBA dominated the battle of the boards as they out-rebounded the Suns 71-26 and had 27 offensive rebounds. Schenk and Davis each finished with double-doubles off the bench as PBA secured the 107-34 victory.
PBA will look to carry over some of the offensive fire-power into its next game on Dec. 17 against Shaw. The two sides will meet in Boca Raton for a neutral sight game at 2 pm.
