Sailfish Victorious On Senior Night

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Rollins Tars at the Rinker Athletic Campus. This win for PBA marks the first time the Sailfish have beaten Rollins in program history. Krysta Memis scored the game-winning goal and finished the match with one goal and one assist. Additionally, Anna Vila notched two assists for the 'Fish.

PBA struck first early into the first half off a set piece. In the second minute, Memis distributed a corner kick near the box. Kendall Furrow completed the corner kick with a header into the back of the net. Furrow leads the Sailfish in goals with three this season.

PBA took seven more shots than the Tars in the first half but failed to extend their lead until the second half. In the 62nd minute, the Sailfish tacked on another. Vila weaved through Rollins defenders and made a pass to Erin Cepeda. Cepeda broke through and kicked a shot into the back left corner of the net and extended the Sailfish lead to 2-0.

The Tars took nine shots in the second half and generated offense. In the 65th minute, RC's Anna Todd found the back of the net on a free kick to cut into the Tars deficit. Six minutes later, the Tars answered again for an equalizer. RC's Lexie Cooper scored a goal in the 71st minute and tied the game at 2-2.

It was a senior-to-senior connection in the 77th minute that determined the outcome. Vila eluded Tars defenders and found Memis in stride inside the box. Memis kicked a shot into the top right corner of the net for PBA's third and final goal of the match. Memis has scored two goals this season.

With the Sailfish up 3-2, the Tars put two shots on goal in the matches final eight minutes. Both shots were stopped by PBA goalkeeper Gaby Lopez. Lopez made her first career start for the Sailfish and made a career-high seven saves. The Sailfish held strong defensively as they picked up their first conference win over Rollins 3-2.

Following the match PBA honored the 2022 senior class of Krysta Memis, Anna Vila, Cami McKinleyNicole Richards, and Rachel Neumann

Next, PBA wraps up the regular season next week with two road matches. The Sailfish travel to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday Oct. 25 and to Eckerd on Friday Oct. 28.
